The Coffee & A Love Revolution team is excited to host David Brown as he shares the mission and vision of Harmony Project—a Columbus-based nonprofit organization that connects individuals across cultural, social, and geographic divides through the arts, education, and volunteer community service. Following his presentation, David, Harmony’s Founder and Creative Director, will be joined by a panel of people who are instrumental in Harmony’s success in reaching individuals representing every dimension of diversity.
Founded in 2009, Harmony Project began by inviting people who love to sing—even if they did not think their voice was good enough—to use their voice to be part of something greater than
self. A combination of people who had not sung since high school, those who had never sung publicly outside of the car or shower, and professionally-trained vocalists joined together to
create what David says is “the sound of the community, if we all started singing together.”
100 people said yes and met at the intersection of artistic passion and social purpose.
Now, Harmony Project engages 1,000 volunteers each week through a number of initiatives including its 500-voice flagship community chorus, prison arts and student programs, and a program featuring differently-abled adults, men and women who have experienced homelessness, veterans, and restored citizens.
There are no auditions. In Harmony Project, it is not about the quality of your voice. It is about how you use it to build a stronger, kinder, and more inclusive community.
There are no notes to read. In Harmony Project, the focus is on the lyrics of the song and telling a story.
There is no financial obligation to volunteers. Every Harmony Project arts and education program is offered complimentary. Concerts, donors, community investors, foundations, public
partners, and corporate contributors provide support for Harmony’s mission, allowing every person who wishes to participate to do so, regardless of their resources.
Since 2009, thousands of people have participated in a Harmony Project program, performance, or volunteer service project, creating a ripple effect of positive social change.
We welcome David to share his vision with us. We know it will inspire.
Everyone is welcome. This event is free of charge.
Donations received for this event will benefit the Harmony Project.
